How to Pack a Box- University Student Storage with Door2Door Student Storage

Being able to pack a box properly is crucial to make sure that your items stay safe while their being transported and are left in storage. So we are going to show you step by step how to pack a box properly!

HOW TO PACK A BOX:

1. GROUP ITEMS BY SIZE AND WEIGHT

Grouping your items together by size and weight will help when you start to actually pack the box. For example, put your books into one pile and your lighter items like your  awesome posters in another.

2. WRAP UP YOUR FRAGILE ITEMS WITH BUBBLE WRAP

Some of your items will be more fragile than others like your mugs and glasses, so make sure that you wrap them all up otherwise they may break during transport. And if you don't have any bubble wrap around just wrap them up in newspaper or some recyled paper.

3. PUT YOUR HEAVIER ITEMS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX AND THE LIGHTER ONES ON TOP

When you are packing your box you need to make sure that all of your heavier items are at the bottom of the box while lighter items, like clothes and pillows, are on the top. This will prevent lighter items from being squashed or damaged by heavier items like books. If you have something that is fragile but heavy make sure you wrap it in lots of bubble wrap and try to make sure that soft items like clothes are placed on top of it.

4. CUSHION THE PACKAGE

Before you cello tape the box closed make sure you fill in any gaps in the box with either paper, packaging peanuts, or some other soft material. This will make sure that all of your items stay in place while it is being transported instead of moving around... which can damage your items. If you want to see what other items you can use for packaging filler just look at our other blog!

5. MAKE SURE YOUR BOX IS THE RIGHT WEIGHT

If you have bought a standard box you need to make sure that the weight of your box is no more that 20kg and if you are using an extra large box it needs to weigh no more than 23kg. This will make sure that your box doesn't break.

6. TAPE YOUR BOX CLOSED

To ensure your box stays properly closed do two lines of tape across the middle and add some tape to the two ends of the box to ensure stability. If you need help just look at our picture below!

7. LABEL YOUR BOX

Last but not least is labeling your box. When we send you your boxes you'll also receive a label to stick on to your box. Make sure you put the label at the top of the box as this will let us know which way up the box needs to face.
